The Sisterhood of Beth El Temple Center
We
are the voice of the women of BETC. Our
members are Beth El women of all ages, backgrounds and interests.
As a member sisterhood of Women of Reform Judaism (WRJ), we are part of a network that is composed of over 100,000 women the world over. WRJ/The Federation of Temple Sisterhoods devotes itself to Jewish and humanitarian causes such as education, international relations, intergroup relations and a wide range of vital, far-reaching programs in the field of social justice and religious pluralism worldwide.

Our
mission in coming together is to:
The responsibilities of the Board members listed here document the many ways in which the Sisterhood supports the Beth El community and our many activities. Additionally, each year, we sponsor a variety of presentations speaking to a wide variety of interests. Please check the Temple calendar or bulletin for upcoming events.
We encourage you to join us for one or more of our events, or come to one of our board meetings to help us carry out our mission. Membership is open to all, and free for one year to new Temple members.
HELP A CHILD TO READ !
Recently published statistics indicate that 40% of America’s third graders read below grade level. In the pursuit of social justice based on Jewish values, our community is committed to helping children learn to read. The Greater Boston Jewish Coalition for Literacy (GBJCL) mobilizes the Jewish community to ensure that all children can read by the end of third grade. This is a program of the Jewish Community Relations Council sponsored by the Combined Jewish Philanthropies, United Way of Mass Bay, and private donors.
Beth El Temple members have been tutoring children at the Tobin School in Cambridge for several years. We have made a commitment to tutor children one or two hours a week during the school year. The need now is greater than ever. As you are aware, the state budget crisis and MCAS testing have put great pressure on school districts and administrations as they attempt to cope with these cuts and demands.
There are currently 41 coalition member organizations and over 650 volunteers working in urban schools. Won’t you join us? For more information please contact us using Coalition for Literacy in e-mail, or just call:
