In the early 1980s, a small group of concerned temple members joined together and petitioned the board to adopt a Vietnamese family. They assisted with every phase of the family's resettlement. This initiative proved so fulfilling that the group, now organized as the SAC, decided to sponsor a Russian family.
In addition to resettlement work, SAC prepared and served a monthly meal at a family shelter in Boston. Over time, more temple members became involved and other activities were initiated, such as Mitzvah Day and the Annual Benefit Concert.
